Busyness

So when I’m too busy to write in my journal or on my blog, I’m too busy.  And I’m not as busy as most people in our society.  Why are we so busy nowadays?  I don’t think it’s healthy for us, and busyness surely doesn’t make us happy.  Or if it does, it’s probably a coverup for some unhappiness.  I do make time to meditate (practice centering prayer), and I do make time for a good night’s sleep, but otherwise I feel a pressing need to be working on something for our new business.  And if I’m not actually doing something, I’m thinking of what I NEED to be doing.

I know this is an opportunity to practice balance – doing and not doing, thinking and not thinking.  Here’s to finding that fulcrum between the two.

  1. Balance is an amazing concept for me. I don’t accredit it fully to being a Libra, though many of my friends and family members do. I don’t view it as a juggling act, or at least I try not to. I think we all deserve a pat on the back for how well we balance things; yourself especially.

  2. I like the juggling metaphor, Jonathan. I’ve never really considered it before, though I’ve heard it lots. It’s usually a negative, as in trying to juggle too many things. But really it’s about timing and not holding on too long, isn’t it? And if you’re good at it, you can keep lots of things in the circuit. Thanks for prompting me to consider that in a new way!
